Back to > BHUG HomePage > Visitor pages > Shaftesbury Churches
St. John’s was built in 1843 in a Normanesque style with a square tower over the crossing. It was built into a sloping site on a terraced area surrounded by a graveyard which is still used. It is listed Grade II in a conservation area. The organ was completely restored in November 1999; it is of unknown origin c. 1870. The font is 15th century or earlier, but how it came to be in the church is unknown.
